3 year Anniversary Fun

On November 15 this year Micah & I celebrated 3 years of marriage. I had been thinking about what I wanted to do to celebrate and decided I wanted us to go get our pictures professionally done. They have these photography studios here mainly for wedding photos but they dress you all up and take your picture. I thought it would be really fun. Well we dropped Reister off with some of our American friends and went around 1:30pm. At 7pm we FINALLY left! It took almost 6 hours to get "dolled" up and to take the pictures. The thing that took the longest time was my makeup & hair. You'd think I was getting married all over again. We took pictures in two sets of outfits. One was us in evening gown/suit but we didn't like any of those pictures they were REALLY cheesy. The other was in the traditional outfits we're wearing below. Hope you enjoy the pictures, we sure got a kick out of them. By the way, today we finally got to pick up the finished product - we took them on November 15. Who knew it could take so long!?

What's in a name?

Many people have asked what the meaning of Reister is... or where the name came from. We named him after Michelle's mom's maiden name. It is in honor of Michelle's grandfather who died before she was born of Leukemia. He was a central Texas farmer and a follower of JC. Here is a picture of him - Milton Rister Sr. - in 1975.

Christmastime

We set up our small tree and some garland. (micah filled in the gaps on our tree with extra garland!) Friday night we had some friends over for dinner and explained that we often take pictures in front of the tree. Here's Michelle, Reister and the wife and their son.

Reister's 3 months old!

On December 1st, Reister was 3 months old. Here are some recent pics! Now he is really able to grab some of his toys and loves to "mouth" them. He is really into exploring things - blankets, toys, anything we give him, with his mouth. He loves to suck on our hands if we are holding him. He really enjoys sitting upright in our laps. He is just so cute we can hardly stand it! :)

Pride in a child

I think I am learning so much about the Father's love for us by being a parent to Reister. As you saw in the "Heads Up" post, he has been able to hold himself up while laying on his stomach. He also is starting to grasp some of his toys (I'm not sure if that's on purpose or not yet). As I watch him make these developmental advances, I'm so proud and excited for him. Often I'm trying to help him along . . . I thought about how the Father's joy in us might be similar. But He's always the one to do it through us, though. I know from His word (Zeph 3:17) that He takes great delight in us. It makes me want to be more obedient and to seize every opportunity to glorify Him, knowing that the pride and the joy He takes in us must be even greater than the joy I feel as I see Reister grow and develop. He is worthy! I'm thankful for this opportunity to grow in my understanding of Him as I learn how to parent.

When I was pregnant I met another pregnant woman here in our city. Her boy was born about a month before Reister. A couple weeks ago I invited her and her son over and we caught some pics of them. Know that I had to "latch" Reister's hand onto his friends, he still doesn't grab things on his own.

Heads Up

After looking at Jonathan & Kelley's blog where they had their daughter Kiran propped up on a towel I tried it with Reister and it worked! He was able to hold his head up much better than before. Way to go Reister!!

All bundled up

So it's cold here . . . and the locals like to bundle their kids up till they look like overstuffed sausages. Well, we normally just put Reister in as many layers as we're wearing, but about a week ago we were going to be out and thought he might get a little cold so we bundled him up in several layers including some clothes local friends had given him (the green overalls & the top).

Frying a turkey . . .

So we had the best turkey we've ever eaten this year! Our friend bought a big pot and burner as well as a ton of peanut oil and fried a 19 pound turkey up for 10 of us. Oh yeah, first he injected it with a ton of garlic and butter marinade (from the states) so it was really yummy!

Starting our Blog!

So many of our friends have blogs and lately I have really enjoyed going to them and checking out their postings and pictures. So I figured other people might enjoy going to our blog - if we had one. Until now we haven't but I think I'm going to start posting. I need to catch up posting pictures of Reister since he was born . . . that might take a while, but for now here's one of him and Micah on Thanksgiving as well as one of all of our food! Also this is a recent pic of Reister after his bath - isn't he cute?!
